Last night, MAC Cosmetics hosted a titillating avant-garde soirée for the launch of Antonio: Fashion, Art, Sex and Disco, a retrospective look at the iconic fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez by Mauricio and Roger Padilha.

Topless women in dramatic MAC makeup emerged from tall cylinders (think Follies girl popping out of a cake), and adorned the vast Flatiron district space. The drinks of the evening included Antonio’s Tall Texan and Antonio’s Juicy Jones — inspired by Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, respectively, both of whom Lopez discovered — and  featured Beluga vodka, a sponsor of the event.

The myriad crowd featured personalities from all ends of the spectrum, from Mae Alexander and Fran Drescher to Cory Kennedy and John Demsey. Other attendees included Patrick MacDonald, Grace Bol, and Pat Cleveland. Drag queens in scintillating bustiers and full make-up peppered the eclectic scene.

Also in attendance was Anna Sui, who wrote the epilogue for the book. “He was such an idol,” she gushed about Lopez. “I loved his drawings, his photographs, and the women he discovered. He was quite inspiring and is one of my heroes.”
